Halloweentown (1998): Halloween

Halloweentown.jpg

Happy Halloween! Today’s the day! So of course I have to celebrate it with a modern classic. So this year I watched this one and the fourth one and god damn… what a difference. Like, I don’t think I even take issue with them changing the actress who played Marnie as much as most people do, the fourth one is just really really bad. Meanwhile, the first one is a gem. The thing with this is that you can see the effort they put into this movie. The practical effects are extensive and creative. It really was something new. This movie has a charm that lasts, even though it’s been almost 20 years since the movie came out. I mean of course it’s cheesy, it’s a Disney Channel movie, But it’s a pre-high school musical Disney Channel movie, so they were at least trying to do something other than sell a soundtrack. I definitely recommend this movie, as I think most people do, as a must watch for Halloween.
